{"id":433,"date":"2010-02-05T17:57:00","date_gmt":"2010-02-06T00:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sharonu.com\/wordpresstest\/?p=433"},"modified":"2010-02-05T17:57:00","modified_gmt":"2010-02-06T00:57:00","slug":"correlation-between-age-and-political-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sharonu.com\/blog\/correlation-between-age-and-political-position\/","title":{"rendered":"Correlation Between Age and Political Position?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In \u201cThe cool kids vs. curmudgeons on the streetcar\u201d an opinion piece that appeared in yesterday\u2019s Idaho Statesman, Kevin Richert outlined Boise Mayor Dave Bieter\u2019s latest strategy for promoting his $60 million boondoggle, the downtown Boise streetcar.  <\/p>\n<p>Richert\u2019s piece has a new explanation for the difference of opinion between streetcar enthusiasts and detractors.  \u201cPart of the divide is generational, says Bieter; younger business leaders tend to support the idea. But Bieter also breaks things down as a schism between the \u2018institutional\u2019 Downtown and the \u2018entrepreneurial\u2019 Downtown. The entrepreneurs, he says, see an amenity that will draw talented workers and promote a green economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2019They have a vested interest in that economy being vibrant, being entrepreneurial, and being future-oriented,\u2019 Bieter told the Statesman editorial board Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you can be one of those stodgy Downtown fogies and oppose the streetcar, or you can join all the cool kids and hop on board. No peer pressure there, huh?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Richert is right on with his editorial and I have news for Mayor Bieter. I am years younger than he is and I oppose the downtown Boise streetcar.
